Erfurt (dpa / th) - The Thuringian police are checking a group photo in front of the Erfurt Cathedral, on which several police officers can be seen presumably without sufficient distance and without masks.

"We are still looking for the original photo and want to be very sure," said the spokesman for the state police department, Patrick Martin, on Tuesday.

The "Thüringer Allgemeine" had previously reported.

The picture is said to have been taken on Saturday in Erfurt when hundreds of police officers from several federal states cordoned off Domplatz because an illegal demonstration was feared by opponents of the Corona policy.

The operation with a massive police presence went smoothly.

Martin explained that some officers also wore black masks that day.

The photo, which was distributed on social media, among other things, was of poor quality.

Therefore, one wanted to check on the original whether too little distance had actually been maintained and no masks had been worn.

According to the Thuringian State Police Directorate, it was police officers from the Saxony riot police who posed in the photo.

The Saxon police have promised full cooperation, so Martin.

Accordingly, a report should be drawn up and sent to Thuringia.

The Thuringian police will then pass on the necessary information to the city of Erfurt.

The police officers are threatened with administrative offense proceedings and fines.
