Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The State Parents' Council has called for schools to be abandoned from the corona incidence value of 50 that was previously applicable.

"We need concepts that take into account several factors when deciding whether to open or close - such as the utilization of hospital capacities and what type of outbreak of infection there is in a region, whether there is a focus or whether it is diffuse," said the chairman of the State parents council, Kay Czerwinski, on Tuesday in Schwerin.

According to the previous regulations of the Ministry of Education, schools up to grade six can only open with compulsory attendance if the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a region in seven days is below 50.

This is currently only the case in the city of Rostock and in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen.

From next Monday onwards, alternating classes should start for older students from grade seven - again only if the incidence in a district or an urban district is below 50 for ten consecutive days.

This means that this opening will initially only be considered for the students in Rostock and in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen.

On Wednesday, the heads of government of the federal states will discuss how to proceed with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

The demands for further openings, also in retail, are getting louder and louder.

The corona incidence value on Monday in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania was 66. 249 patients were treated in clinics, 42 of them in intensive care units.

A week earlier, 293 Covid patients were in hospitals, 49 of them in intensive care units.
