Berlin (dpa / bb) - One day before the next deliberations by the federal and state governments on how to proceed in the corona pandemic, the Berlin Senate has dampened hopes for a quick end to the lockdown.

"We will have to remain careful," said Transport Senator Regine Günther (Greens) after a Senate meeting on Tuesday.

"We will not be able to open up on a large scale given the numbers we have."

The Senate is trying to make a lot possible, "but also to keep an eye on the pandemic and to proceed very carefully."

In Berlin, the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants has recently risen again within a week despite the lockdown.

On Monday the value was 66.3 - slightly higher than the day before.

Berlin's Corona warning traffic light has been pointing to red for a long time. On Wednesday, the heads of government of the federal states discussed with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) whether it is possible to relax the corona measures and whether the lockdown, which is limited to March 7, is to be extended becomes.
