Walkers risk scanning the ground while walking in the coming days in the Aiguillon sector, in Lot-et-Garonne.

A meteorite was spotted on Saturday, at exactly 10:43 p.m. by several cameras, including that of the Star Farm in Mauroux (Gers), and scientists are appealing to the public to find it.

As part of a project called FRIPON (supported by the Paris Observatory), around a hundred automatic cameras have been installed on French soil to permanently monitor the re-entry of meteorites into the atmosphere.

To crisscross the skies of France, a participatory network called Vigie Ciel (supported by the National Museum of Natural History), which has already seen the light of day for several decades.

Fall between Marmande and Agen

The Open Sky Association, a member of this network and specializing in scientific mediation around astronomy and meteorites, is the relay closest to the point of impact.

Residents near the area are encouraged to report any “unusual” objects seen near their homes.

The meteorite would have fallen between Marmande and Agen, north of the town of Lagarrigue.
