Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - According to a report, school minister Yvonne Gebauer wants to bring more students in North Rhine-Westphalia back to schools in March - regardless of the weekly incidence.

Also for the pupils of the secondary schools applies that they “have to be brought back to the classroom at least partly as soon as possible”, Gebauer told the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” (Tuesday edition).

This will currently only be possible in the interchangeable model.

When asked whether she wanted to put a changeover model into effect from mid-March, even if the incidence - new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week - remained above 50, the FDP politician replied: “That is in my eyes the most sensible way - otherwise we will lose the children. "

So far, Gebauer had said that only if the incidence is below 50, there could be further openings in the school.

Only when this target has been achieved will the state government decide whether to expand face-to-face teaching.

On February 22nd, an alternating model of distance and face-to-face teaching began for elementary and special school pupils at primary level.

The graduating classes, who have since been among the first to return to school, can even be taught at full class or course strength.

Gebauer told the newspaper: "If the incidence is higher, we need more parts of alternating lessons, and if the incidence is lower, more face-to-face classes."

She is now getting calls for help from parents, and the situation is worsening in all families.

"If we now allow more children to go to schools with more face-to-face classes through regular tests, a little bit of normalcy will return to society as a whole."

The teachers' union VBE spoke of a «change of course».

The move away from the value 50 as the “measure of all things” shows once again that political statements “cannot be relied upon”.

If there are now further openings in the secondary schools, this should only be done with changing models and fixed learning groups.
