Halle (dpa / sa) - The organizers of the Handel Festival in Halle are sticking to their plans for the program starting at the end of May.

"We are still optimistic," said a spokeswoman for the dpa on Tuesday.

In compliance with the distance and hygiene rules to contain the corona pandemic, combined with capacity limitations, work will continue on the program.

As with other cultural workers, there is uncertainty, for example, about how the entry requirements for participants and guests from abroad will be.

For 2021, the festival organizers had previously announced a program with around 100 events under the motto “Heroes and Redeemers” (May 28 to June 13, 2021).

In 2020 the Handel Festival in Halle was canceled due to the pandemic.

There were short concerts on the Internet for this purpose.

The composer Georg Friedrich Handel was born in Halle on February 23, 1685.

He lived mostly in London, where he also died on April 14, 1759.

To this day, Handel's “fireworks music” is played all over the world.

The church music piece “Messiah” with the choir “Halleluja” is one of the famous works in the Baroque composer's rich opera and oratorio output.

Before the pandemic, tens of thousands of visitors and musicians from all over the world came to the classical music festival in Halle.
