Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - According to the health insurance company Barmer, the costs for the medicines of their insured persons are highest in Saxony-Anhalt in Germany.

The insurance company in Magdeburg announced on Tuesday that the insurance took over 809 euros per capita in 2019.

That is the highest value in a national comparison.

The lowest costs were in Bremen at 500 euros.

As reasons for the high expenditure, Barmer named among other things the high average age of the population in Saxony-Anhalt as well as the nationwide rising prices for newly approved drugs.

According to a spokesman, around 270,000 people in Saxony-Anhalt are insured with Barmer.

This corresponds to a share of around 13 percent of those with statutory health insurance.
