Palma (dpa) - After a seven-week Corona forced closure, the innkeepers on Mallorca have received guests again for the first time.

As a result of a significant improvement in the pandemic situation on the Spanish holiday island, they have been allowed to reopen since Tuesday - but only the outdoor areas for the time being.

All restaurants, cafés and pubs must close again by 5 p.m. at the latest.

In addition, for the time being, a maximum of 50 percent of the 7 tables may be set up outside - with a maximum of four people each from a maximum of two different households.

According to a decision by the regional government of the Balearic Islands, this first stage of easing the strict lockdown will initially apply to Mallorca and Formentera for two weeks.

In Menorca, the innkeepers have been able to reopen inside under strict conditions since Tuesday, because the number of infections is even lower there.

In Ibiza, where the situation is currently less good than on the neighboring islands, all restaurants will remain closed.

As part of the cautious easing, you can also meet relatives and friends again on Mallorca.

In recent weeks, meetings with people outside the household have been banned both indoors and outdoors.

In a first stage, private meetings of a maximum of six people from a maximum of two households are allowed.

There are also relaxations for retail.

The night-time blocking between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. remains in effect.

The corona situation on the Germans' favorite holiday island Mallorca and on the other Balearic Islands has been improving rapidly for weeks.

With a good 31 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, the “Autonomous Community”, which had the worst figures in Spain for a long time in December and January, is now one of the regions in the country with the best values.

The Balearic Islands currently have significantly better numbers than all German federal states.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the seven-day incidence was 74 in Hamburg, 63 in Berlin and 66 in Bavaria. Thuringia is the “frontrunner” with 125.
