Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - The city of Krefeld begins this Tuesday to vaccinate employees of primary schools and daycare centers.

"We want to give as much vaccine as possible," said city spokesman Sebastian Peters of the German press agency.

He reckons with around 600 teachers as well as daycare center employees and other staff at the facilities who want to be vaccinated.

«We have around 600 registrations.

It has been shown that there is enough vaccine.

We wanted to find pragmatic solutions. "

The special vaccination campaign six days before the regular vaccination start for primary school teachers and educators on Monday became possible because around 1200 doses of the Astrazeneca vaccine allocated by the state were left in Krefeld and could not be administered to the groups actually intended.

The remaining 600 cans are to be used in Krefeld on Thursday.

The surprising vaccination offer for elementary school and daycare workers under the age of 65 was announced by the city administration in cooperation with the German Red Cross at the weekend.

According to the city spokesman, the campaign in the vaccination center on Sprödentalplatz should begin around 1.30 p.m.

"No other vaccinee in the previous prioritization groups is deprived of an existing vaccination appointment with this procedure," emphasized Sabine Hilcker, head of the Krefeld vaccination center.

In addition to the teachers, other employees who regularly work in the facilities are also entitled to a vaccination.

This also includes, for example, integration workers, social workers or caretakers.
