No casualties or injuries have been reported from the Indonesian island so far.
The eruption on Tuesday is the first that Sinabung has had since August last year.

The sky around the Sinabung volcano has darkened after a major volcanic eruption. A film from the event shows how ash and smoke are thrown several thousand meters into the sky.
