Hamburg (AP) - Not the big HSV, but the FC St. Pauli has the nose in the fight for the unofficial Hamburg city championship in the 2nd Bundesliga.

After the 2-2 first leg, the Kiezkicker secured the city championship of this season with the 1-0 (0-0) success on Monday evening.

For the fans of both clubs, who make no secret of their aversion to their city rivals, a victory over their neighbors is almost worth more than promotion or relegation.

“It's about more than three points.

It's about being the one in town again, ”HSV coach Daniel Thioune announced.

Already in the preseason, the Kiezkicker had proven to be number one in the city and thus left the bigger and more traditional rival from the Volkspark behind.

HSV secured the prestige success in the 2018/19 season after 4-0 and 0-0.

In the last Bundesliga season of both clubs, the club from the neighborhood of Hafen, Reeperbahn and Herbertstraße also dominated.

The “joy house of the league”, as FC St. Pauli was called, scored 1-1 at home and won 1-0 at Volkspark in the 2010/11 season.

Back then, the party in the neighborhood didn't want to end.

Corona and the lockdown do not allow that this time.

The previous city duels in the 2nd division:

March 10, 2019: After a 0-0 bore in the first leg, HSV reciprocated at Millerntor and won 4-0.

Because of the use of pyrotechnics, the game was about to be abandoned.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga scored twice.
