The Minister of National Education Jean-Michel Blanquer announced on Tuesday on France Inter the recruitment of 1,700 students to help medical personnel perform saliva tests which must be deployed on a massive scale in schools.

"We are going to recruit 1,700 mediators, who will be students in medicine, pharmacy, or in other fields, to help the personnel mobilized to carry out these tests", declared Jean-Michel Blanquer, specifying that these students will be "paid" to help with saliva tests "between now and the end of June".

These tests will be carried out by "health personnel" and not by teachers, he reiterated, while the latter feared to be called upon.

The minister estimates that France has the logistical means to reach by mid-March the objective of 300,000 tests per week for the whole of France.
