　　Due to the repeated detection of quarantine pests in pineapples exported from Taiwan to the mainland, the General Administration of Customs issued a notice on February 26 to suspend the import of Taiwanese pineapples to the mainland from March 1.

A measure based on scientific common sense to maintain food safety has become another excuse for the DPP authorities to discredit the mainland's political manipulation.

　　The DPP authorities’ operations of “reverse every land” has been dizzying over the years, from using the new crown pneumonia epidemic to seek “independence” to create cross-strait estrangement and confrontation, to import clenbuterol pork for the “United U.S. fight against China” to banning Huawei, Ban Taobao, ban iqiyi, ban children's books, ban vaccines from the mainland, etc., in order to reap the self-interest of one-party politics, in vain science and public opinion, ideology overrides everything, and at the expense of the vital interests and well-being of the people on both sides of the strait.

Some people accused the mainland of fabricating "unnecessary charges" for Taiwan pineapples and "malicious suppression."

In fact, in order to prevent the invasion of foreign pests and diseases from causing serious damage to agricultural and forestry production safety and the ecological environment, countries and regions in the world will take corresponding quarantine measures to prevent plant epidemic risks.

Hazardous organisms were detected from imported fruits and imports were suspended, which complies with trade regulations.

　　The relevant departments in Taiwan know this well and have rich experience.

According to public reports, Taiwan suspended imports in 2002 and 2004 due to the detection of moth moths in apples imported from the United States.

2004 was the peak season for apple sales. The United States immediately launched an investigation of codling moths, submitted relevant investigation reports and actively improved them. Taiwan finally resumed importing American apples after four months.

According to the former head of Taiwan’s agricultural department, Taiwan’s moths were detected four times that year and it decisively offered to suspend imports of American apples.

　　In contrast, since 2020, the mainland customs has detected and notified quarantine pests from more than ten batches of Taiwanese pineapples, but no active actions by Taiwan have been seen.

Among the targets of this notice issued by the General Administration of Customs, the Guangdong branch is listed separately in front of the other customs directly under its jurisdiction.

Guangdong Province is the main pineapple producing area on the mainland. When the peak season for production and sales is approaching, the risk of Taiwan's pineapple pests and diseases remains high. The suspension of importation is the most basic protection and responsible performance of agricultural ecological security, farmers' interests and welfare, and people's food safety.

　　According to statistics, Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan and other places in the mainland have large-scale pineapple planting industries, with a total annual output of more than 1.7 million tons.

Last year, Taiwan exported more than 40,000 tons of pineapples to the mainland, accounting for more than 90% of its total export volume. It was fully benefited by the early harvest list of the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA).

However, Taiwan’s banned imports of more than 600 mainland agricultural products include pineapples, while pineapples from other producing areas are allowed to be imported.

Obviously, Taiwan is a party that truly does not abide by WTO regulations.

　　However, these facts are nothing to the DPP authorities.

Whenever the mainland is involved, the "three axes" of malicious interpretation, attack and smear, and self-respect are the usual tactics of the DPP authorities to incite hostility and confrontation, avoid their own responsibilities, and do not hesitate to bind the grassroots people in Taiwan to "self-destruct". Type chariot".

　　More importantly, the fact that the DPP authorities have repeatedly maliciously confronted the mainland will also deeply hurt the hearts of the mainland people.

If the island’s political manipulation continues to ferment, it will severely damage the reputation of Taiwan’s fruits, and trigger the antipathy of the mainland people towards Taiwan’s fruits. In the end, it will be Taiwan’s most basic fruit farmers who will suffer.

If the interests of Taiwan farmers are really considered, the DPP authorities should actively take measures to guide fruit growers to disinfect and remove insects, improve quality, supervise Taiwanese wholesalers to reasonably set purchase prices, and prohibit malicious price reductions and exploitation of fruit growers.

　　The vested interests of the DPP authorities should ask themselves whether they have responded and cherished sincere response and cherishment of the goodwill and affection from the mainland for more than a decade in opening up Taiwan’s fruit imports?
