Berlin (dpa) - The alleged mastermind of the "Ibiza video" is to be extradited to Austria.

The Berlin Court of Appeal decided that extradition was permissible, said court spokeswoman Lisa Jani on Tuesday at the request of the German Press Agency.

The now 40-year-old man, who was wanted with a European arrest warrant, was arrested in the German capital in mid-December 2020.

The court spokeswoman said it was not about the production of the recordings, but about possible blackmail in connection with the video and alleged drug crimes.

The prosecutor said: "The extradition proceedings are in progress."

The video published in May 2019 had led to the overthrow of the government of the conservative ÖVP and right-wing FPÖ.

The then FPÖ boss Heinz-Christian Strache appeared susceptible to corruption on the secretly recorded video.

It was initially unclear when the 40-year-old had to leave Germany.

According to dpa information, he should previously be questioned as a witness by the Wirecard investigative committee of the Bundestag.
