Wrestedt (dpa / lni) - A 17-year-old was killed in a fire in an apartment building in Wieren in the Wrestedt community (Uelzen district).

The fire broke out on Tuesday at around 4 a.m. for an unexplained cause in an upper floor apartment, the police said.

The 65-year-old resident suffered severe burns and was taken to a special clinic in Hamburg.

The man's son could not escape the building and was found dead in the upper floor apartment during the extinguishing work, as it was said.

Other residents of the building were able to leave their apartments.

In a large-scale operation, emergency services from six fire brigades put out the fire, the property damage was estimated at 300,000 euros.

Fire investigators from the Uelzen criminal investigation service started work at the scene of the fire in the morning hours.
