From 1 March this year, store owners can apply to port customers who commit crimes in the store, for example stealing or behaving threateningly towards staff.

Largest increase in violent customers in Stockholm

The new law banning access to shops is long awaited by Svensk Handels, which has seen crimes against shops increase for several years - and the worst is in the Stockholm region.

When they asked their members last year, 48 percent of Stockholm stores answered that they had been exposed to a theft in the past week.

Which is higher than the whole of Sweden, which was 32 percent.

- Exposure to theft, threats and violence is increasing and the increase is greater in Stockholm.

This is a big problem for stores and has been for a long time, says Per Geijer, head of security at Svensk Handel.

Extra affected is the food industry, where threats and violence in connection with thefts have increased from 18 to 26 percent between the years 2019 and 2020, according to the Swedish Trade Survey.
