Rüsselsheim / Darmstadt (dpa / lhe) - A woman found three dead dogs in a field in Rüsselsheim.

The animal bodies were wrapped in blankets when they were discovered on Saturday afternoon in the Königstädten district and were already in an advanced state of decay, the police said on Monday in Darmstadt.

According to a spokesman, the police assume that the dogs have already been in the field for several days.

The animal bodies were about 50 centimeters tall, so they could be young dogs.

Further background information on the origin, breed or cause of death of the animals was initially not known.

The police are investigating the violation of the Animal Welfare Act and are looking for witnesses.
