In his appeal, the legislator noted that in the course of the latest high-profile trials, the defendants allowed themselves insulting remarks about other participants in these trials, including judges.

At the same time, the maximum fine for insulting a judge - 200 thousand rubles - was introduced into the Criminal Code of Russia at the end of 2003.

Since almost 18 years have passed, the size of the fine against the background of the changing economic situation in Russia no longer seems to be a proportionate punishment, in fact, for an encroachment on the authority of the judiciary, Fedorov noted.

“In this regard, I ask you to evaluate the feasibility of amending Part 2 of Art.

297 of the Criminal Code of Russia in terms of increasing the maximum amount of a fine for insulting a judge from 200 to 400 thousand rubles, ”the text of the appeal says.

Earlier it became known that the profile committee of the State Duma will consider amendments to the law regarding tougher liability for insulting veterans.
