Ishaq Jahangiri, Iran's First Vice President, has acknowledged his country's neglect of the rights of the Sunni community and women.

During his participation in an event in Golestan province, Jahangiri discussed a number of the country's problems, according to the Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA).

He pointed out that the people enjoy equal rights in the country, regardless of religion, sect or race.

"I admit that the rights of Sunnis and women are neglected," he added, noting that the Iranian government is seeking to increase the number of women in leadership positions.

He stressed that solving the problems facing the Sunnis in the country rests with the government.

He pointed to the need to give hope to youth, women and followers of different sects regarding the future of Iran.
