Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - In Nuremberg, the breeding season of the peregrine falcon has started on the Imperial Castle.

On the night of last Sunday, a nest camera showed a freshly laid egg in the falcon's nest on the castle's Sinnwellturm, the government of Middle Franconia announced on Monday.

The observation of the peregrine falcon is part of the “Burg Habitat” project within the Bavarian biodiversity strategy.

In the past few years, 14 young peregrine falcons had already flown out of the nest box on the Kaiserburg.

Overall, natural life at the castle has been observed more closely since 2009.

So far around 2000 animal species have been detected on an area of 65,000 square meters.
