In June 2020, the Swedish Transport Administration was commissioned by the government to investigate what the consequences would be if the budget for new trunk lines were to be limited to SEK 205 billion.

Monday morning, the report is expected to be made public.

- It will be interesting to see the underlying material, says Norrköping's municipal councilor Olle Vikmång (S).

During the morning, the Swedish Transport Administration will have a meeting with the municipalities along the planned railway line.

One proposal, which we reported on in October, was to locate new railway stations outside today's central cities.

This was proposed for Linköping and Norrköping, among others.

A "non-central station location" would save money.

It may not affect the railway itself that much, but for the cities it matters.

In Linköping, politicians have long fought to get the new railway drawn through the city.

In Norrköping, the situation affects the entire planning and rebuilding of the city, something that has already begun.

In the clip below, you can hear how Lars Stjernkvist (S), when the chairman of the municipal board in Norrköping, in October reacted to the plans to build the new railway station outside the city.
