Düsseldorf (dpa) - The Olympic application of the Rhine-Ruhr region for the Games in 2032, which probably failed early on, will be the topic of the Düsseldorf state parliament on Wednesday.

After separate proposals from the SPD and AfD, there will be a current hour in parliament.

The debate could also be about the question of whether North Rhine-Westphalia will make another attempt to apply.

The President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), Alfons Hörmann, said on Monday after a conversation with North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) that it was easy to come to an agreement, “that we should reassess our cards without any time pressure lay".

The International Olympic Committee had named Brisbane, Australia, as the preferred candidate for 2032 last week.

Laschet then accused the DOSB of having no sense of “what is going on in the IOC”.

For Hörmann and the DOSB, the race for Olympia 2032 is over.

The DOSB boss thinks nothing of a German application for the 2036 Summer Games, 100 years after the Nazi Olympics in Berlin.

Lascht sees no obstacle in this.

"The world is a different 100 years later than the 1936 Games," he said.
