Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The North Rhine-Westphalian municipalities have once again asked the state government to continue to suspend parental contributions for daycare and open all-day school due to corona-related restrictions.

"The lockdown also made considerable demands on children and families in February," emphasized the municipal umbrella organizations in a statement on Monday.

Therefore, as in January, the parental contributions should be waived.

"The municipalities are ready to do their part to ensure that parents get reimbursed contributions for February," assured the associations.

However, the country must take on at least half of the financial losses.

A decision should not be delayed any longer: "We hope that the state government does not play for time on this important issue."

The daycare centers continue to work with reduced care times.

NRW Family Minister Joachim Stamp (FDP) has stated several times that the waiver of daycare fees - also demanded by the opposition - does not currently have a priority for the state government.

The priority now is how the corona tests will continue and how the vaccination of the educators will get going.

The government will then check whether there is scope for retroactive compensation of the February fees.

According to Stamp, costs of around 32 million euros would arise for the state if the fees were shared with the municipalities in half.
