Münster (dpa / lnw) - Shortly before the consultations between Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the Prime Minister, the mayors of Münster, Rostock and Tübingen called for more responsibility for local easing.

Now is the time for the municipalities.

With quick tests and new apps for contact tracking as well as local corona traffic lights, safe partial openings in restaurants and retail should be possible, write Markus Lewe (Münster / CDU), Claus Ruhe Madsen (Rostock / independent) and Boris Palmer (Tübingen / Greens) in an am Joint statement published on Monday.

With the new rapid tests for self-application, the right instrument is available without taking a relevant risk of infection.

The opening of facilities can be allowed thanks to apps like Luca - they ensure direct contact tracking and immediate quarantine warning in the event of infection.

"General contact restrictions as the main instrument of pandemic defense do not pay enough attention to the individual, and the harmful effects of the lockdown measures on people, the economy and society continue to increase."

The municipalities are only assigned the task of enforcing the regulations.

"We need flexible, location-specific and practically implementable solutions," demand the three city leaders.

Rostock, Münster and Tübingen had taken their own paths to combat the pandemic, which had proven to be successful, they emphasized.

The seven-day incidence in the three cities has been below 50 for weeks. "Openings in our cities would therefore be possible according to the nationwide standards of the Infection Protection Act."

Where the pandemic is well under control and concepts for responsible openings exist, this should be allowed.

“Our guiding principle is the responsible local people, on whose judgment and willingness to cooperate we build”, it says in the declaration.
