Erfurt (dpa / th) - At the top of the Thuringian Left, a rapid change is emerging after the election of Susanne Hennig-Wellsow as federal chairman.

It is expected that Hennig-Wellsow will resign as early as the state board meeting.

The meeting started on Monday in Erfurt.

It was initially unclear whether a successor would be appointed.

It seemed more likely that her two deputies, domestic politician Steffen Dittes and Minister of Health Heike Werner, would initially continue to run the business without moving to the top of the party.

Behind the scenes, there is currently a debate on the left on whether the move from Hennig-Wellsow to Berlin should be used for a generation change at the top of the party.

Hennig-Wellsow had announced that she would give up her offices as state and parliamentary group chairman in Thuringia in the event of an election as federal chairman of the Left.

She was elected to the top of the left together with Janine Wissler on Saturday.
