Ravensburg (dpa) - The verdict against a man who deposited several poisoned jars of baby food in supermarkets and wanted to extort millions of euros in this way is final.

The Federal Court of Justice had dismissed the defendant's appeal as obviously unfounded, the Ravensburg Regional Court announced on Monday.

The then 56-year-old was sentenced to ten years and six months in prison in June 2020 for attempted particularly serious blackmail.

He was on trial for the second time.

After a revision, the BGH partially overturned a ruling from 2018.

In 2017, the man had placed several jars of baby food with a dangerous dose of poison in shops in Friedrichshafen and demanded 11.7 million euros from various trading companies.

In 2018, the Ravensburg Regional Court sentenced him to twelve and a half years in prison for attempted murder, among other things.

The BGH partially overturned this decision in 2019 because the defendant had warned against the poison and there was therefore no intention to kill.

The man had confessed to the actions in which no one was hurt.

However, he had denied the charge of attempted murder.
