  According to reports, Iran rejected the proposal of the European Union and the United States to start direct negotiations on the Iranian nuclear agreement in recent weeks.

The European Union has previously confirmed that the European Union's foreign affairs department is working with the United States to hold informal meetings for participating countries in the Iran nuclear agreement.

  According to Iranian media reports, a spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "Considering the recent actions and statements of the United States and the three European countries, Iran does not think it is time to hold informal meetings with these countries."

  In response to the Iranian authorities’ response, the US White House spokesperson said that the United States expressed disappointment at Iran’s refusal to hold informal talks and plans to discuss the next steps with the six countries on the Iranian nuclear issue.

  In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany.

According to the agreement, Iran promised to restrict its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions against Iran.

  In May 2018, the US government unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear agreement, and subsequently restarted and added a series of sanctions against Iran.
