A new version of the European energy label comes into force on Monday March 1 and will classify the various household appliances from A to G. This simplified scale should make it possible to orient consumers towards more energy-efficient products, but also to encourage manufacturers to innovate.

If you have plans to buy a washing machine or a freezer in the near future, you will discover the new energy label, which came into effect on Monday.

Finished the "A +++" created 25 years ago, place to a simpler classification, from A to G, displayed on all refrigeration and washing devices, whether in store or on the internet.

This change of scale should make it possible to move towards greater requirements and to better be able to compare and differentiate products.

Because with the old label, all the latest generation devices that came out were systematically classified A. Except that there could sometimes be up to 70% difference in energy consumption between a device classified "A +" and a " A +++ ".

Savings of 150 euros per year and per household on average

It was therefore necessary to restore order via a new, more ambitious calculation.

"The grid was made so that there are no devices on the market today that are categorized A. The goal is to encourage manufacturers to make more innovative products, less energy consuming, and encourage consumers to choose products that consume less energy, ”explained Mickael Rogué, director of ecological and energy transition at Boulanger.

"The European Commission has also reiterated its desire to remove all the products that are worst classified in the energy index".

According to the European Commission, the revision of the energy label should allow significant savings: on average 150 euros per year and per household.
