Beverly Hills / New York (dpa) - The twelve-year-old German Helena Zengel went empty-handed at the Golden Globes ceremony.

Jodie Foster (58) won the category “Best Supporting Actress” for her supporting role in the political thriller “The Mauritanian”.

The Association of the Foreign Press in Hollywood announced on Monday night.

Zengel had followed the awarding of the award in a live broadcast from Berlin.

Because of the corona pandemic, the show ran largely online on stages in Beverly Hills and New York.

In the western “News from the World”, the student played an orphaned girl who was raised by an indigenous people at the side of Oscar winner Tom Hanks.

Zengel made her English-language debut, directed by Paul Greengrass.

The role earned her a lot of attention in Hollywood.

The young star had his first big success two years ago with the German film "Systemsprenger".
