Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters upgraded the emergency service to the second stage in preparation for heavy snow at 9 o'clock last night.

Seoul and Gyeonggi Province also entered the first and second stages of emergency work, respectively, from yesterday evening.

Last night, Prime Minister Jeong Sye-gyun ordered the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of National Defense to take necessary measures by mobilizing all available resources.

Military personnel were also employed in the snow removal work.

More than 200 soldiers from nearby units, such as the 8th and 23rd Divisions, are involved in snow removal work, such as pushing isolated vehicles by being put into the scenes affected by heavy snowfall.

Schools in the Gangwon region are closed on the first day of the first semester today, or school hours are adjusted.

The Gangwon-do Office of Education said that 66 schools in eight cities, counties, such as Goseong, Gangneung, and Sokcho, where heavy snowfall was concentrated, will be closed today.
