Erfurt (dpa / th) - In the Thuringian hospitals, fewer patients were treated as inpatients in 2019.

With 579,947 such stays, the number fell by 6621 cases or 1.1 percent compared to 2018, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Erfurt.

As in the previous year, patients were discharged after an average of 7.4 days in 2019.

According to statistics, the number of beds in the 43 Thuringian hospitals decreased by 223 to 15,743. In contrast, the increase in the number of doctors employed in hospitals continued.

At the end of 2019, 5,326 doctors were employed, 28 more than at the end of 2018. In the nursing service, 12,527 employees looked after hospital patients.

That was 6.5 percent more than at the end of 2018 with 11,767 nurses.
