Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - The German Olympic Sports Confederation believes it is wrong to hold on to an application by the Rhine-Ruhr Initiative for the 2032 Summer Games.

Further efforts in Germany for the Olympics in eleven years are "impossible if the decisive prerequisites agreed with all those involved are complied with," announced the DOSB.

The head of the umbrella organization defended itself against the allegations that they had insufficiently supported the Olympic plans of the Rhine-Ruhr region for 2032 and did not represent them well at the International Olympic Committee.

There was “no formal decision by the DOSB for or against joining” in negotiations with the IOC.

An earlier start in discussions with the IOC about an application "would definitely not have led to any other approach or decision on the part of the IOC according to our knowledge," it said.

The DOSB now wants to reflect with its member organizations and politicians at a distance, “whether, when, where and with what concept a new attempt will be made at the given time”.

The Rhein-Ruhr Initiative had accused the DOSB of not being adequately networked internationally.

North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) had criticized that the umbrella organization had not seen itself in a position to “enter into a serious dialogue with the IOC about a German application for the Olympic Games” and had no sense of “what was going on at the IOC does ».

The conflict was triggered by the IOC's decision to select the Australian city of Brisbane as the preferred candidate for the 2032 Summer Games.

In consultation with the DOSB, the German interested party wanted to bring about a referendum before the application was submitted.

Rhein-Ruhr wants to stick to the application project for 2032 or, if necessary, run for 2036.
