They kept it a secret for several weeks.

Former US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania were vaccinated against Covid-19 in January, when they were still in the White House, people around them learned on Monday.

Unlike Joe Biden, who was vaccinated live on television on December 21, a few weeks before coming to power, Donald Trump had never publicly mentioned his vaccination.

"President Trump and the First Lady were vaccinated at the White House in January," a source close to the former president told AFP, without further details.

"Everyone should get vaccinated"

At the CPAC conference on Sunday, during his first speech since leaving the White House, Donald Trump said that "everyone should be vaccinated".

His statements took on particular relief because some of his supporters are particularly skeptical of the vaccine.

Tested positive at the beginning of October for Covid-19, Donald Trump had been hospitalized for several days at the Walter Reed military hospital, in the suburbs of Washington.
