Friedland (dpa) - A full-grown domestic pig caused traffic obstructions in Friedland near Neubrandenburg on Monday and brought police investigations into its owner.

As a police spokeswoman said, the animal was discovered early in the morning on federal highway 197 in the city area.

The officials led the pig to a farm and, among other things, “kept it in check” for a long time with their breakfast until the city building yard was there and the animal took over, as the spokeswoman said.

Investigations revealed that the private livestock owner actually went to a slaughterhouse in the region early with two pigs, but only got there with one pig.

In the region, some households traditionally keep pigs or other farm animals in order to provide themselves with meat and sausage.

The police do not know whether the animal that had "fled" on the way escaped its fate completely.
