The details of the operation

Ten people arrested and 19 companies seized.

This is the balance of the operation taken this morning in the provinces of Vibo Valentia, Cosenza, Catanzaro, Reggio Calabria and Naples where the soldiers of the Investigative Unit of the provincial command of Vibo Valentia, with the help of personnel from the Weapon departments of the cities concerned and the air support provided by the 8 Carabinieri Helicopter Unit, have carried out a precautionary order issued by the Gip of the Court of Vibo Valentia at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office.

Eight people were taken to prison, two under house arrest operating in the education sector, AFAM circuit and joint institutions, held responsible in various capacities of conspiracy, corruption, forgery of documents intended for the judicial authority, forgery in public deed, abuse of office and self-laundering.

During the execution of the precautionary measures, 19 companies operating in the education sector were also seized by emergency decree, for an estimated value of approximately 7 million euros.

There are a total of 23 suspects. At the center of the investigation is the Fidia Academy of Stefanaconi, a town bordering Vibo Valentia, managed by the Licata family.

They ended up in prison: Michele Licata, 77, and their children Davide Licata, 52, Igor Vincenzo Licata, 48, Dimitri Licata, 42, Michela Licata, 22, all from Stefanaconi.

Also in prison Carmine Caratozzolo, 49, of San Ferdinando (Rc);

Maurizio Piscitelli, 56, from Casalnuovo di Napoli;

Christian Piscitelli, 24, from Naples.

Under house arrest are Rossella Marzano, 46, from Vibo Valentia (wife of Davide Licata);

Domenico Califano, 39, from Reggio Calabria.

Davide Licata and Rossella Marzano, last July, had been arrested (he in prison, she under house arrest) for the illegal detention inside the house of an arsenal (rifles, a machine gun and numerous ammunition).

The crime of conspiracy is challenged to: Michele Licata, Davide Licata, Dimitri Licata, Jgor Licata, Michela Licata, Carmine Caratozzolo, Maurizio Piscitelli, Christian Piscitelli with the role of promoters and organizers of the association.

The investigation, called "Diacono", conducted under the guidance of the Public Prosecutor of Vibo Valentia and Deputy Ciro Lotoro, was launched following the discovery of the arsenal of weapons (war and clandestine) and a large sum of money in the house of Davide Pietro Licata, adjacent to the "Accademia Fidia" Institute, run by the family.

The investigations would have allowed the reconstruction of a network of training institutes (equal and artistic / musical) that unlawfully produced, in exchange for money or other benefits, educational qualifications and certificates, as well as made fictitious hires, in order to encourage the participation of beneficiaries in public competitions for the recruitment of teaching staff and ATA (Administrative Technical Assistant).

Conduct that would have been facilitated and made possible thanks to the corruption of a senior official of the Ministry of Education, who is in charge, among other things, of the inspection and control activities of the proven institutes accredited to the Miur.

The investigative effort would also have made it possible to shed light on a further episode of corruption, aimed at obtaining the attribution of an important institutional position within the Ministry of Education, for the benefit of a Director of the regional school office of Calabria.
