The Ministry of Interior warned against neglecting the monitoring and follow-up of children while browsing social media and the Internet in general, as they could fall victim to electronic blackmail, warning of the need for parents to educate their children not to talk to strangers and divulge their private information, or to open suspicious and anonymous links.

This came within a virtual workshop organized by the Ministry yesterday, entitled "For a digital life .. safer and more quality", within the activities of the World Safe Internet Day, targeting young people and youth by enhancing awareness in the fields of information security and personal protection over the Internet.

In the virtual lecture, specialists from the Ministry of Interior Center for Child Protection spoke, who dealt with ways to enhance personal protection and online security, the best steps to deal with electronic penetration and suspected exploitation through electronic gaming platforms, and other matters and topics related to enhancing digital security and the quality of digital life.

They also indicated the foundations for promoting positive citizenship and achieving a safe digital quality, within the directives of the UAE government, in order to upgrade its modern technical services and establish a culture of safe use of our electronic and smart resources and services, within the UAE's fiftieth year of readiness.

The Child Protection Center confirmed that child abuse on the Internet is a crime in the UAE, pointing out that there are many risks that children can face while using the Internet, and this can include luring, extortion, threats and harassment, and cases of this kind are considered criminal offenses that must be done. He cautioned that there are multiple types and forms of abuse that a child may be exposed to, such as beating, threats, sexual and physical abuse, neglect and bullying.
