Werlaburgdorf (dpa / lni) - On a playground in Werlaburgdorf (Wolfenbüttel district), strangers hammered around 100 nails into play equipment in such a way that children playing could easily injure themselves.

Reports of such injuries are "fortunately" not yet known, as the police announced on Sunday.

The nails were driven into almost all wooden play equipment, benches and platforms.

Each only an inch deep so that the rest of the three inch long nails protruded upwards.

In addition, the unknown perpetrators tried apparently unsuccessfully to nail the sheet metal of the slide from below.

The nails were removed from the playground equipment with the help of the Werlaburgdorf fire department.
