Following the detection of a Covid-19 cluster in Chambourcy, a commune in Yvelines, the mayor asked to postpone the start of the school year by a week.

A drastic measure, which is explained by the fact that part of the cases is due to the South African variant of the coronavirus.

No re-entry for Chambourcy students.

This commune of Yvelines has postponed its return to school by one week after the detection of a cluster notably attributed to the South African variant of Covid-19.

The students were supposed to resume lessons on Monday but this discovery prompted the mayor, Pierre Morange, to ask the authorities for a delay.

Nurseries, schools and colleges will therefore remain closed at least until Monday, March 8.

Coronavirus: follow the evolution of the situation Sunday February 28

The mayor wants "firm measures"

"In this type of situation, it is better to take firm measures early enough rather than somewhat chaotic measures which occur too late", argues the councilor at the microphone of Europe 1. At his request, a test campaign massive has just been launched.

Some 1,400 tests have been delivered by the ARS and already 550 people have been screened.

"By carrying out mass screening, it is a question of knowing the extent of the epidemic. All families have been required to keep their children at home. The fact of screening, tracing, isolating must be followed in a methodical manner ", recommends Pierre Morange who adds:" This, of course, pending vaccination coverage. "
