The French Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune, announced on France Inter on Sunday that France opposes "extremely strict measures to close the borders" with Germany.

The latter has just classified the Moselle, a border department, as a "high-risk area"

Germany classified Moselle, one of the French departments most affected by the Covid-19 epidemic on Sunday as a high-risk zone, announced French Secretary of State for European Affairs Clément Beaune, asking Berlin to avoid "strict" controls amounting to a "virtual closure" of the border.

"We don't want it"

"The German authorities have just classified the Moselle as a variant circulation zone (...) which normally implies extremely strict measures to close the borders (...) We do not want that", a he declared on France Inter radio.

The German authorities in Saarland assured earlier in February that they wanted to avoid it, but with this classification in a high-risk zone, Berlin could in theory require anyone entering its territory from Moselle to present a negative test for Covid- 19 dating from 48 hours maximum, equivalent to a virtual closure of the borders.
