Mannheim (dpa) - The Netzhoppers KW-Bestensee have missed the first title win in their club history.

In the final of the German Volleyball Cup, the Brandenburgers lost to United Volleys Frankfurt on Sunday in the empty Mannheim Arena with 0: 3 (23:25, 21:25, 10:25).

The Hessians turned out to be the more mature team with the better attack behavior.

Both teams had their ups and downs in the first set.

The Netzhoppers were initially 2: 6 behind, but caught up and finally gained a comfortable 19:14 lead through a point from Estonian Karli Allik.

But with an ace from Tim Grozer, the Hessen team restored the tie at 21:21, which gave them the boost they needed to win the set.

At Netzhoppers, Byron Keturakis was able to play again as a player for the first time after a week-long injury break.

Although the Canadian impressively demonstrated his leadership skills several times, his team broke after an intermediate result of 20:20 in the final phase of the second round.

In crunchtime, the Frankfurter dominated again.

The Netzhoppers had been able to turn a 2-0 set deficit against renowned opponents three times in the previous cup rounds.

The wide-awake Frankfurters and their 37-year-old veteran Jochen Schöps did not allow this to happen in the final.

With minor coordination problems in the acceptance as well as a lack of consistency in the deal, the Brandenburger came to meet their opponent involuntarily.

In the third set, the team of coach Christophe Acht was constantly chasing arrears and finally had to admit defeat with the third match point.
