In an interview published this Sunday in the JDD, the socialist mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, asks Emmanuel Macron to "put the package" to look for anti-Covid vaccines and "twist the arm" of the laboratories that would make retention .

"I ask the Head of State to put the package to get some.

He must twist the arm of the laboratories.

In the face of the global pandemic, the protection of patents and their benefits does not interest me.

If the laboratories are withholding vaccines, the President of the Republic must go into battle, ”insisted the city councilor.

Renounce "intellectual property on patents"

Vaccination remains the hope of getting out of a crisis which has left more than 81,000 dead in France.

But there is still a long way to go: some three million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine, including 1.561 million two doses.

The boss of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on Friday called for concrete measures to drastically increase the production in the world of vaccines against Covid-19, beyond the call of the Council of security to equitable access.

He notably proposed "a renunciation" by the labs of "intellectual property on patents", an idea fought by the pharmaceutical industry supported by the European Union, the United States and other rich countries.

The Velodrome stadium transformed into a vaccination center?

"What interests me is efficiency," pleaded Benoît Payan.

“Today we vaccinate around 3,000 people per week.

A little less than 30% of the 80,000 Marseillais over 75 years old have been vaccinated and 40% of those over 80 years old.

However, the incidence rate drops sharply among those over 80.

It means that the vaccination works ”, underlines the mayor of Marseille who speaks of a“ pivotal moment ”.

“I am ready to open the Stade-Vélodrome in the coming days and to vaccinate 10,000 people per week without an appointment.

I want to do it.

Send vaccines!

", Launches the elected according to whom it is necessary to concentrate the doses of vaccines available" where it is necessary ".

The mayor of Marseille believes that "the curfew at 6 pm does not give result" and is "not sure that confinement at the weekend has an impact".

As for the idea of strict confinement for three weeks mentioned by the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, “that would not make it possible to eradicate the virus.

Only collective immunity can, ”he said.
