Sternberg / Rostock (dpa / mv) - In Kobrow near Sternberg (Ludwigslust-Parchim district), a pig fattening system caught fire on Sunday morning.
The system was burning to its full extent, said the police in Rostock.
According to initial estimates, 9,000 pigs were threatened by the fire.
The fire brigade has started the extinguishing work and is trying to save as many animals as possible.
People are not in danger.
Because of the heavy smoke development, the population in the area was asked to keep doors and windows closed.
