Flensburg (AP) - Handball Bundesliga club SG Flensburg-Handewitt has responded to the request of the European Handball Federation (EHF) and explained its sharp criticism of the valuation of canceled games in the Champions League.

In fact, the EHF informed the clubs involved before the press release, the SG admitted on Sunday.

«Due to technical problems, this message did not reach the SG management.

Information to all clubs in the Champions League about half an hour before the actual press release is published on February 26th, should nevertheless be critically examined in this case, ”the club announcement said.

The EHF asked the SG to correct its statements.

The Bundesliga leaders also complained that he was punished with four minus points and two 0:10 goals for the canceled games against Vardar Skopje and FC Porto, although no corona cases had occurred in the Flensburg team.

"Both SG games were canceled due to entry restrictions imposed by the relevant authorities," wrote the club.

"The SG is rated as the polluter if the authorities take appropriate measures that a professional sports club can legitimately not influence."

The SG Flensburg-Handewitt is “in an exchange with the EHF and EHF President Michael Wiederer in order to transparently process and openly clarify the evaluation of the games and the resulting reactions,” it says.

However, the association reserves the right to “view one or the other decision made by the EHF also critically.

We admit that in this case there were several communication breakdowns, and not only on the part of the SG, ”explained the Flensburg managing director Dierk Schmäschke.
