Kerken (dpa / lnw) - After the large stable fire with around 900 dead animals, the investigation into the cause continues.

The criminal police and fire experts tried to clarify how the momentous fire in the piglet farm in Kerken on the Lower Rhine could come about, the officials said on Sunday.

The amount of damage was also initially unknown.

The fire brigade initially suspected a six-figure sum.

The fire raged in two adjacent pigsties on Friday and killed 800 to 900 animals.

People weren't hurt.

The stables should have been in full fire when the fire brigade arrived.
