Berlin (AP) - Hertha BSC fears in the Bundesliga relegation battle for its top newcomer Sami Khedira.

The ex-world champion may have torn a muscle fiber in his left calf in the game at VfL Wolfsburg (0-2).

More detailed information about the severity of the injury should be provided by investigations on Sunday, reported coach Pal Dardai at a digital media talk with the Berlin Bundesliga club.

"We have factored in this risk, so we have to deal with it," said Dardai about the 33-year-old's injury.

Khedira was signed by Hertha BSC on February 1st from Juventus Turin until the end of the season.

For the Italian record champions he had not played a full game for 14 months due to various injuries.

For the Berlin team he started for the second time against Wolfsburg.

He has never been able to take part for the full duration of the game.

How long Khedira would be out was not yet clear.

Matheus Cunha and Nemanja Radonjic should also undergo further examinations on Sunday.

Both were substituted at half-time in Wolfsburg.

The Brazilian Cunha has had groin problems for months.

Radonjic, who was also signed up a few weeks ago, had to pass due to muscular problems.

Hertha BSC have been without a win for nine games.

Under Dardai there was no success in the fifth attempt either.

The Hertha coach described the upcoming appearance on the next match day against FC Augsburg as a "must-play".

"Anyone can read the table," emphasized Dardai.

Nevertheless, the 44-year-old warned against “panic”.

"Football is a sport, there comes the moment when you are successful," said Dardai.
