Oberstdorf (dpa) - With the historic World Cup premiere, the Nordic combined women in Oberstdorf have taken the next step towards equality in sport.
"That was very good advertisement for the Nordic combined women," said the strongest ski jumper in the German team, Svenja Würth, after the victory of the Norwegian Gyda Westvold Hansen.
"You saw that we can do that too."
However, just looking at the program for the coming weeks shows how far the combiners are still from their goal.
A single Continental Cup in Russia is still scheduled, after that there is a break.
The first World Cup winter ended with a curiosity due to the corona: A strong day was enough for Tara Geraghty-Moats from the USA to secure the first crystal ball for the season winner.
The reason: There was only one World Cup race.
Würth's wish for 2021/22 is therefore all too understandable.
"I hope that everything will run a little more regularly and that we will have a lot more competitions and a real World Cup series," said the 27-year-old.
"We all deserve it."
In 2026, the combined athletes want to celebrate the next big premiere - at the Winter Olympics in Milan.
