WELT AM SONNTAG:

Mr. Latuschka, alongside Svetlana Tichanowskaya you are one of the leading members of the opposition movement in Belarus.

In September they had to flee to Poland.

How are you doing in exile?

Pawel Latuschka:

Svetlana Tichanowskaja and I are in a very difficult position beyond our homeland.

But every day I speak to the activists who protest in the backyards or take part in strike committees.

And these people who are fighting for freedom in Belarus keep asking me: where is the reaction of the European Union?

We explain to them that the EU has been working for six months to get a process off the ground.

We thank the EU for the solidarity.

But action is important to us.

WELT AM SONNTAG:

It was only on Thursday that the EU extended the sanctions against President Lukashenko and 87 other persons responsible for one year for election fraud in the presidential election in August and violence against demonstrators.

Entry and property bans were imposed on them.

Is that nothing?

Latuschka:

The EU's sanctions are not enough, in reality they have absolutely no effect.
