Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The Schwerin actor Martin Brauer, who was honored with the Conrad Ekhof Prize, is dead. As the Mecklenburg State Theater announced on Sunday, the artist, who was born in Rostock in 1971, died surprisingly on Friday night.

Shortly before that, he had rehearsed with colleagues for one of the hotel's reopening premieres.

«In Martin Brauer, the Mecklenburg State Theater has lost one of the leading protagonists and a highly valued colleague.

Martin was a thoroughbred artist and a family man, »said General Director Lars Tietje and expressed the sympathy of the entire ensemble to the relatives.

After engagements in Dresden, Berlin, Magdeburg and Leipzig, Brauer switched to the Mecklenburg State Theater in the 2016/2017 season.

As a guest lecturer, he taught at the Rostock University of Music and Theater and also worked as a drummer with the music cabaret artist Rainald Grebe.

The Society of Friends of the Theater awarded Brauer the Ekhof Prize in 2018.

The honor, which is reminiscent of Conrad Ekhof, who founded the first German acting academy in Schwerin in 1753, honors outstanding acting achievements every year.

In Schwerin, Brauer appeared on stage as Josef Tura in “To be or not to be” as well as in the title roles of the plays “Liliom”, “Mephisto” and “Cyrano de Bergerac”.
