Rostock (dpa / mv) - The first warm days in February showed that the tourism season 2021 is imminent.

But in contrast to the record numbers of past years, there are many question marks for 2021, as in 2020.

One thing seems clear because of the corona pandemic: “The season will be marked by losses.

The engine will not start properly before April / May », said the managing director of the regional tourism association, Tobias Woitendorf.

But it is just as certain that the industry is willing and able to resume operations under the respective conditions.

"We want to prove that tourism is not a driver of infection," said Woitendorf to the German press agency.

It seemed impossible from the start that guests from other federal states could be received over Easter.

Hopes are now based on locals being able to travel.

"It would be very nice for all of us if we succeeded in taking a few days of vacation in our own country again at Easter," said Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD).

The camping industry would also be ready to open, said the spokesman for the MV Camping Association, Gerd Scharmberg.

But hope is dwindling, which is particularly sad for permanent campers.

But because Easter is relatively early in the year, the failure would not be very tragic.

The President of the Dehoga MV Hospitality Association, Lars Schwarz, pointed out that a decision would have to be made soon.

Hotels required at least two weeks' notice before opening.

Woitendorf was certain that the guests would come as soon as openings or even partial openings are possible.

"The potential demand is quickly converted into bookings."

He therefore assumes that comparatively good business will be possible for the whole of spring.

The challenge would be the reorganization and development of the pandemic-related structures, said Woitendorf.

It can be safely assumed that the rules of 2020 will initially continue to apply with distance or the ban on breakfast buffets.

"The rules may be tightened a little, for example with the wearing of medical masks."

In 2020, cloth masks were still allowed.

Wearing a mask in the outdoor areas of tourist facilities could also become mandatory.
