Erfurt (dpa / th) - In Thuringia, according to the State Ministry of Health, in the corona pandemic, almost all districts and urban districts have received medical protective masks for low-income people from the country.

With the exception of the Greiz district, the municipalities picked up the masks, a ministry spokeswoman said on request.

The East Thuringian district waived the delivery.

Before a corresponding federal regulation, Thuringia had provided around two million medical masks worth around 2.7 million euros for people in need.

They are intended, among other things, for recipients of Hartz IV benefits or asylum seekers.

400,000 FFP2 masks and 1.6 million so-called surgical masks were available nationwide.

They come from the country's pandemic warehouse, which had stocked up on masks and protective clothing, among other things, after the shortage in the first phase of the pandemic.

The municipalities distribute the protective masks on site.

Fixed contact points have been set up in many places and collection dates have been agreed.

18,000 FFP2 masks and 72,000 surgical masks were intended for the district of Greiz.

In the meantime, masks for low-income people are made available from federal funds.
